Michele Wittig joined the Board over 35 years ago. She chaired its Educational Awards Committee and Community Light Awards Committee, and served as Chair of the Coalition in 2002-2003, during which Santa Monica agreed to name its main library auditorium after Dr. King, culminating a 10-year effort. A Santa Monica resident since 1970, Michele had a 40-year career as a professor at CSUN, where she conducted research on procedural justice and developed and implemented programs for overcoming bias and discrimination. After joining the Santa Monica-Venice branch of the NAACP in 1987, Michele served as its education chair and social action chair and is currently a member of its executive committee.
